An Update Rolled Out In iOS, And macOS For Security Vulnerabilities

Posted on December 4, 2023 by bella

Apple took urgent action and released iOS 17.1.2 and macOS Sonoma 14.1.2 with security updates to address two critical security vulnerabilities. These are also called zero-day vulnerabilities, which are actively exploited in attacks. These important security updates are also available for iPhone, Mac, and iPad starting today. The iPhone maker said the first bug used web processing to “disclose sensitive information,” and the second bug used web processing to allow arbitrary code execution.

Apple is also working on iOS 17.2, which is about to release within the next month. This update adds a new Journal app and makes some major improvements to the Music app.

What Is WebKit And Reason Behind The Update
These particular bugs were discovered in a web browser engine called WebKit used in Apple’s devices. By tricking a user into visiting a malicious website, an attacker could access sensitive information or execute malicious code on a vulnerable device. Apple acknowledges that this issue may have been exploited in iOS versions prior to iOS 16.7.1.

To address these security issues, Apple has released an emergency update for devices running iOS 17.1.2, macOS Sonoma 14.1.2, Safari 17.1.2 and iPadOS 17. 1.2,. Apple updates are now available for iPhone, iPad, and macOS. These updates contain patches for critical vulnerabilities, so it’s important to update affected devices as soon as possible.

However, there are no new features in these security updates. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and tap the Start button to immediately update your iPhone or iPad. On Mac, go to System Preferences > General > Software Update and repeat this process.
