Lenovo Concept Laptop: Rotate and close the lid with a voice command

Lenovo showed off a concept laptop (called the Lenovo Auto Twist AI PC) at IFA Berlin yesterday that rotates the lid on its own to maintain proper visibility. The lid also closes automatically when the laptop is left unattended. While the highlight of this machine is between the lid and the base, it also has AI features designed to enhance the user experience. Let’s take a look.

The automatic lid movement has the potential to uplift video calling experience
According to the company, the Dual Degree of Freedom automatic rotation makes it an ideal companion for both personal and professional use. Apparently, device AI models help the device track the user’s movement.

This rotating feature becomes especially helpful in keeping the user within the field of view during video calls. The machine also supports voice commands to auto-switch between different modes, like “close laptop”, “laptop mode”, and “tablet mode”. This concept comes after the Lenovo Thinkbook Plus Twist launched last year with an additional E Ink screen on the other side of the lid.

While the company noted “exceptional performance” while describing the capabilities of this AI PC, they didn’t reveal much about the internals of the machine. According to The Verge’s Jennifer Pattison Tuohy, the concept Auto Twist AI PC responds to voice commands in a second or two. However, she mentioned that the motor is slow and takes about 10 seconds to execute commands.

We’re still experimenting with this,” said Jeff Witt, director of communications at Lenovo. A lot of these concepts aren’t on the market yet, but you may see elements of them in the future. It has facial tracking; it’s basically a videoconferencing system built into a laptop. It has a lot of potential for accessibility.” We just hope it hits the shelves in the near future.

Windows Laptops Still Can’t Compete with MacBooks

Windows laptops have had a great year so far. Not only have we launched the Snapdragon X-chip-powered Copilot+ line of PCs to compete with the MacBook Air, but the recent AMD Ryzen 300 AI chip is impressive, and powerful laptops like the Zenbook S 16 are competing with the MacBook Pro.

>>>>>>>Replacement A2159 11.46V 6100mAh Battery for Apple MacBook Pro 14 inch A2442

Increasingly, Windows laptops are more than just MacBook replacements-they have great staying power as some of the best laptops you can buy.
But there’s one MacBook that still avoids the scope of this new breed of Windows laptops. It’s not actually new – it’s the M2 MacBook Air.

QQ截图20240821151106.png

This two-year-old laptop, which Apple still sells, remains an extremely attractive little device. The 13-inch model officially starts at a price of $999, and considering it only comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, that might not sound too impressive. In fact, the Surface Laptop 7th Edition starts at $999, but comes with twice the memory.

>>>>>>>>>Replacement A2669 11.54V 4561mAh Battery for Apple MacBook Air 13 M2 2022 661-26150

That $200 difference might not sound like a huge deal, but margins are very tight at this price point.Of course, you’re getting an older laptop with the M2 MacBook Air, but it’s identical in terms of chassis and features to the M3 model that was released earlier this year. You get better GPU performance with the M3, but so long as you’re not trying to play games, you likely won’t notice the difference too much. You can take things even further if you want and opt for the M1 MacBook Air, which now sells for $649. If you’re shopping for a MacBook, I’d recommend the M2 model though, as you get a better display, webcam, speakers, and port selection. It’s more than worth an extra $150.

The affordable price of the M2 MacBook Air makes even today’s Chromebooks harder to recommend. I’d expect Copilot+ PC prices to drop over time, and Qualcomm has hinted at cheaper Snapdragon X PCs coming next year. But for now, Apple has a small share of the laptop market, and Windows laptops are having a hard time keeping up with that share, even if they’re making some significant inroads into the $1,000+ price point. But for now, you won’t find a better sub-$1,000 laptop than the M2 MacBook Air.

How to Keep Your Phone and Laptop Cool

Laptops, tablets, and smartphones can all naturally run warm, thanks to batteries stuffed into ever-shrinking cases. When temperatures climb, it gets even worse: Your gadgets might feel like they’re going to burn you or start a fire, performance can drop (e.g., your laptop slows down, or your phone keeps restarting), or your devices can give up altogether and refuse to work at all.

Here’s how to protect your devices from damage when it gets hot and make sure they continue to work well.

Basic Hot Weather Tips
Heat can harm all kinds of tech, so there are basic guidelines that are the same, whether we’re talking about the smartphone that’s burning a hole in your pocket or an overworked laptop.

Don’t leave devices in your car.You shouldn’t leave your electronics in a closed, hot car; in a short time, the interior can turn into an oven-like environment.
Protect your devices from the sun. The heat from direct sunlight can also damage laptops and other devices. Try a glare screen or a hood to keep the hot sun off your computer screen, and head to a shady area if you can.
Let your device cool down before using it. Once you’ve escaped the heat, don’t turn on your device until it comes down to room temperature.

How to Stop Your Laptop from Overheating
Overheating laptops are an issue no matter what season it is or what the temperature. Laptops are prone to overheat, and the faster processors in ever-shrinking cases don’t help much

There are, however, things you can do if you see signs your laptop is overheating:

•Adjust the power settings to use less power
•Clean the vents
•Use a laptop cooling pad
•Shut it down when not in use
To prevent heat damage, also remove the laptop battery when you’re using it plugged in. Not all laptops support this, but if yours does, you should take the laptop battery out and store it in a cool, dry place so you can prolong its life.

How to Stop Your Phone or Tablet from Overheating
Tablets and smartphones are also subject to heat damage and performance issues. Because they can naturally run hot (even burning, can’t-even-hold-this hot), it’s hard to tell whether they’re overheating.

The warning signs of your cell phone or tablet overheating are very similar to the laptop overheating symptoms. The device can’t do basic tasks (e.g., opening an app), freezes, or abruptly shuts down.

When that happens, you’ll need to power down your tablet or smartphone and let it cool down before attempting to use it again.

Some other tips to keep your devices from getting hot include:

Turn off battery-draining features and apps. The harder your phone or tablet works, the more heat it generates.
Give it some air. A protective case might be a must when you’re exposing your smartphone or tablet to the elements (water, sand, kids, etc.), but if it’s overheating, take it out of the case to give it some breathing room. Similarly, remove it from your coat pocket or pocketbook.
