OnePlus Open Leak Reveals Colours and Specifications

OnePlus has been preparing to enter the foldable segment with its upcoming OnePlus Open. New leaks have revealed key specifications and colours of the device.

OnePlus has been teasing the launch of the OnePlus Open, the company’s first folding phone. It will bring the same hardware as the Oppo Find N3 to the international market. According to a leak by tipster Max Jambor, the Open will be the first globally available folding phone to compete against the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.

OnePlusOpen might be the first real globally available competitor to Samsungs newly launched #GalaxyZFold5 – the new performance beast will be available in two colors: Voyage Black and Emerald Eclipse

OnePlus Open leak indicates it will be available in Voyage Black and Emerald Eclipse. The company has launched every single OnePlus flagship in the same colours since the OnePlus 10. It seems like OnePlus has grown fond of the Black and Green colour scheme, and the Fold will continue this trend.

OnePlus Fold Expected Specifications
A previous OnePlus Open leak has suggested it will have the biggest and sharpest screen among all foldable screens. It will feature a 7.82-inch AMOLED inner screen with a 2268 x 2240 pixels resolution. This will result in a pixel density of 426 PPI, the highest for any folding phone. It is larger than competing phones like the Z Fold 5 and the Google Pixel Fold, which offer a 7.6-inch display outer screen.

The outer screen will reportedly have a 6.31-inch size with a resolution of 2484 x 1116 pixels. The phone will have a pixel density of 431 ppi with a 20:9 aspect ratio. This makes it wider and more accessible to hold than other folding phones. Both screens will feature a 120Hz refresh rate for a fluid experience.

Other rumoured specifications include 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage. The Chinese company is even considering the possibility of a 24GB RAM version. The phone will run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and ship with Oxygen OS 13.1 based on Android 13.

It is speculated to arrive with a 50-megapixel primary, 48-megapixel ultrawide and a new 64-megapixel periscope lens. Like past OnePlus flagships, the Open could come with Hasselblad branding next to the cameras.

OnePlus Open Availability and Expected Launch Date
The phone was scheduled to launch in August but has been delayed due to a screen replacement. Apparently, OnePlus switched from a BOE-sourced panel to a Samsung-manufactured one due to some quality issues. However, this is not the reason behind the postponement of the launch, according to tipster Yogesh Brar.

OPPO Find N3 Flip China launch is scheduled for end of August.

OnePlus Open Global launch is expected to happen by late September – early October.

Apparently the delay is not just due to display switch but also due to the Nokia – OPPO royalty case.

Brar claims that the actual reason behind the delay is the ongoing patent dispute between Oppo and Nokia. The launch will now take place in late September or early October. As a result, the company will need to get past any legal issues if it wants to release the foldable globally. Due to the failure to sign a licensing agreement, the BBK group had to suspend the sales of its devices in Germany. Oppo is currently engaged in a legal battle with Nokia, and it will need to settle the litigation for a successful global launch of the phone.
